The New Subaru Impreza: the Compact Car That Doesn't Leave You Wanting More

The new Subaru Impreza is considered the brand's "entry-level" model, but don't let that terminology fool you. The Impreza has a handsome list of technologies and amenities for every budget. Here at Dan Perkins Subaru, located in Milford, CT, we have nearly 100 in stock to choose from! Today we'll do a high-level overview of the model to help prove why this is a vehicle you'll want to be driving around Danbury and beyond.

Engine & Body Style

The new Subaru Impreza is available in two body styles: sedan and hatchback. If you have an active lifestyle and are constantly enjoying the great outdoors, you'll probably want to go with the hatchback which has 20.8 and 55.3 cubic feet of cargo space (with all seats up and the back seats down, respectively) compared to the sedan version which has a 12.3 cubic foot trunk. The exterior for the sedan and hatchback are quite striking and perform double duty. They're rugged enough for the hiking trails in Norwalk but sleek enough for a nice evening out.

Regardless of which body style you choose, both have a 2.0L engine with 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough power for your standard commute in Branford. The base comes as a 5-speed manual, though there is an optional Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. The upper trims come standard with a CVT and have paddle shifters to mimic a manual transmission. What's especially nice about the Impreza is that even though it's an "entry-level" model, you'll still get Subaru's standard symmetrical all-wheel drive, and that sets it apart from front-wheel drive competitors.

Standard Features and Safety

If you are watching your budget, then you'll want to check out the base model. Hint: it doesn't disappoint! Standard amenities you'll find include a 6.5-inch STARLINK™ infotainment touchscreen display, Bluetooth for calling and music streaming, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smartphone integrations for iPhone and Android users. Backing up is also a breeze with the standard rearview camera.

For added peace of mind, you can get the Subaru EyeSight suite of advanced safety technologies (Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Sway Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, and Pre-Collision Throttle Management.) The EyeSight package is available on all trims except for the base model, and it's a wonderful addition if you find yourself driving a lot in downtown New Haven.

The Trim Lineup

Both the sedan and the hatchback 2019 Subaru Impreza models are available in the following trims: 2.0i (base), Premium, Sport, and Limited.  We already touched on the standard features that you'd get on the base in the previous section, so we'll dive into the Premium which has more technology, capabilities, and comfort. For technology, you'll get the STARLINK™ Safety Plus system with automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, and more. Regarding capability, the model comes equipped with roof rails that are ready for genuine Subaru accessories like a cargo box or bike racks. Regarding comfort, you'll get the all-weather package with heated front seats, as well as heated mirrors and wiper blades. Toasty.

The Sport trim has, as you might have guessed, a sportier presence. On an aesthetic level, there's a more aggressive wheel design, spoiler (for the sedan), and sport cloth interior. However, this trim isn't merely an appearance package. It also has active torque vectoring and a sport-tuned suspension. For technology, the touchscreen grows to 8-inches, you have navigation by Magellan, and there's a keyless access with a push-button start and a keyless entry pad.

Last up is the Limited, which offers drivers a more luxe approach. You'll get leather on the seats, wheel, and shift knob and a simulated carbon fiber trim. If you need extra visibility, the LED headlights are steering responsive, and you get fog lights too for added visibility.

At our dealership, we aim to carry a mix of the trims. The question is: which is the one you want to be seen behind of the wheel of in New Haven? Stop into our dealership this week for more information on the 2019 Subaru Impreza and to go on a test drive. We're conveniently located to serve shoppers from the Wallingford areas as well and look forward to helping you find an Impreza.
