Compare The Subaru Outback to the Competitors

Compare the Subaru Outback vs. the Competition in Milford, CT

A midsize crossover with a wagon heritage, the Subaru Outback has earned its reputation as an SUV that can do it all. With standard all-wheel drive, excellent ground clearance, and advanced safety features, it's equally at home on city streets or rugged New England trails. The Outback provides a complete package that's tough to top. Here's a quick look at how it measures up against two of its most prominent competitors, the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is known for efficiency and a smooth ride, but it can't match the Outback's built-in capability. Subaru equips every Outback with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, while AWD is only optional on the CR-V. Ground clearance is another factor. The Outback provides 8.7 inches in most models, and up to 9.5 inches in the Wilderness trim, compared to just 7.8 inches for the CR-V. The Outback also comes standard with X-MODE traction management for enhanced grip in various conditions--a feature the CR-V can't match.

The Outback's interior is also more generous, offering more legroom and cargo flexibility than the CR-V. Subaru's available 11.6-inch STARLINK® touchscreen, heated and ventilated seating, and optional Nappa leather create a more refined and accommodating cabin experience. The CR-V has smaller displays and lacks a cooled seat option. Both are reliable, but the Outback provides the better balance of comfort, utility, and rugged usability.

Subaru Outback vs. Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is another popular option, but the Outback distinguishes itself with a roomier interior and smoother ride quality. With a longer body and more cargo space, the Outback is a better match for both errands and road trips. The RAV4 offers 8.4 inches of clearance, which is respectable for the class but still short of the Outback's 8.7-9.5 inches.

Both models include several standard driver aids, including collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance. However, the Outback has a more advanced adaptive cruise system that includes Lane Centering. Plus, while all Outback trims include steering-responsive LED headlights, the RAV4 doesn't offer this feature in any configuration.
